Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls (MWGG or MWatGG for short) is an original concept created by Lauren Faust. It is inspired by 90's Strawberry Shortcake, except the characters are different types of girls, supposedly being the personifications of planets.
There was also going to be an animated series pitched to Hasbro, where its pilot would be about Milky Way accidentally freeing the Black Hole from a planetoid while she was exploring the solar system, and meets each Galaxy Girl, to use their special talents for defeating Black Hole. Unfortunately, Hasbro disagreed with the concept. It later became the more famous television show called My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
There was also a flash game that can be found here, where you can learn about the Galaxy Girls and party at Saturn's dance club. Unfortunately, Flash is now completely blocked. But if one opens the archive link and gets the SWF to HTML Chrome extension, it will work.
As of 2021, the Galaxy Girls have been revived and all have new designs shown here.

Rag Dolls[]
The series is recognized as a toyline. Despite this, the only "toys" that were offered are dolls. There are five characters that were released to the public: Milky Way, Venus, Jupiter, Pluto (with guitar) and Mars. They are referred as series 1, but there was no other series possible, which would have been created with the other 6. Neptune was also shipped to a lucky fan which came with her surfboard. All eleven characters were done, and two more versions of Stinky Way have been created. Chibis of the aforementioned five characters were also available, Milky Way with every doll having a different facial expression.
Scrapped sketches on Lauren's Deviantart revealed that the dolls were possibly going to be released with one or more outfits to play dress up with, but the idea was eventually scrapped.

There are no known male characters in the series.
Milky Way and Mars had their navels exposed in their original designs.
The franchise rose in popularity and became a cult following on August 20, 2021 when a Twitter user who talks about fictional black girls posted about Jupiter.[3]
Eventually the cult reached Lauren Faust, who posted the characters' redesigns on December 1, 2021.
